“People are frugal in guarding their personal property, but as soon as it comes to squandering time they are most wasteful of the one thing in which it is right to be stingy.” – Seneca

Time is our most precious, finite and non-renewable resource. It’s linear, always advancing, and there isn’t much we can do about it.

When we were kids time seemed to crawl; as adults, time seems to speed up.

When we’re bored or feel lonely, time feels empty. Then when we’re excited and enjoying ourselves, we wish that we could slow down time.

If we’re praying or meditating, it’s like time doesn’t move fast or slow, it just seems fulfilling and satisfying.

What all this means is that time is a human creation. We actually have an ability to slow it down or speed it up.

If we schedule time to think and get to know ourselves better, we can be more strategic in how we manager and allocate our time; thus, optimizing it to do more, see more, and live our best life.

I hope you enjoy today’s audio blog. If so, please share the link with your friends or let me know in the Comments.

Pura Vida!

Salmon Fishing, Raised on the Rez, Bali Dreams with Lamar Fairmint

Lamar Fairmint is a young man I’m lucky to know. I finally got a chance to meet him in Costa Rica at the Retreat—no question he had the most interesting background of anyone who attended. In this episode, we talk about what it was like growing up on the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Eastern Oregon.

I may not be a day one homie but I’m definitely a ride or die. Great takes on time and money and how to best manage them. Saying No is a skill. (I once read that if it isn’t “Hell yes”, then it’s a no. I think the book was “Essentialism”.) And chasing down people who don’t value you, will def “take” from you. Everyone in our life is either an “adder” or a “subtractor”. Stack up your precious time with being around adders. Iron sharpens iron…thanks for keeping me sharp! 💪🏼🙏🏻🙌🏻

Yessirrr you’re definitely a “ride or die!” So glad you listened.

That text you shared with me a few mins ago will have me jumping out of bed in the morning. That’s iron. That’s “let’s do BIG things together.” Proud friend man.

Brad, I just took some time out of my day to listen to this…it is excellent and it was time well-spent, time spent that will manufacture more than it took. And timely! How many of the topics in this talk did you and I touch on, either directly or obliquely, in our first conversation? Pretty freaky when I think about that. I’m glad you and I, two total strangers, chose to spend a little extra time that day to listen and share, instead of rushing through our transaction. Thank you.

David, it means a lot to me that you took time out of your day to listen to this audio. It means even more that you view the time spent listening as an investment that will have positive returns. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

We became fast friends. I see us having many future discussions about life and the value of time, perhaps somewhere near Santa Teresa or Playa Manzanillo!

Absolutely worthwhile. Affirmation, wisdom, motivation, guidance, encouragement. These are a few of the things your work offers. There’s not a word you said in the podcast that was dissonant or didn’t ring true. Yet, you don’t act like you have all the answers. There’s a great balance of conviction and humility in how you offer information. It comes from the heart and it resonates. That, my friend, is never time wasted.

I only have the luxury of listening to personal/financial podcasts on vacation. While on vacation this week in Playa Hermosa, I actually laughed out loud when you said you were recording this from Playa Hermosa! I really enjoyed your podcast and the blogs! I look forward to future postings!

Wow, that’s crazy! The hike I’m referring to in this podcast is the Mirador (on the way to Jaco). It’s a moderate “must-do” hike for sunset. Takes 30-45 minutes to arrive at the top. Glad you found me, keep in touch.
