Solo again from Costa Rica. We’re soaking in the beach sun,, hiking in nature a little, and overall enjoying a slower pace than what we had in Warsaw or Prague.

In this episode, I dive into the AI revolution and what investors can learn from the dot-com bubble 25 years ago. I talk about how hype and leverage repeat through history, why it’s nearly impossible to know which companies will last, and why sometimes it’s wiser to buy the whole haystack instead of trying to find the needle.

I also discuss Ferdinand Magellan, New York’s growing migrant crisis, some lie detection, and Obama’s comments on the places we’ve spent the past two summers.

Topics discussed:
  • In-laws’ first trip abroad
  • How far travel has come since pre-modern times
  • Ferdinand Magellan and his expedition
  • Nostalgic memories from high school — “The Plateau” and 90s music scene
  • Chase’s “Shark” and road trips to Austin
  • Weezer, Buddy Holly
  • Museum of Prostitution
  • Woke Era
  • Potential communist leadership in New York City
  • Staying at The Roosevelt Hotel in NYC
  • Magellan’s discovery of the Philippines & how he died
  • AI revolution, market bubbles, and investment lessons from the dot-com era
  • Amazon vs Yahoo
  • ETFs vs individual stocks
  • Nancy Pelosi lie-detection analysis
  • Obama’s comments on Poland & Hungary
  • Republican youth group chat scandal
  • Arson-related fire in California
  • Jared Kushner’s Middle East peace deal

Mardi Gras, Mexican Cartels, Nazi Olympics

I start this episode with ‘funnies’ from the past week, then get into the Winter Olympics in Milan. How thrilling would it be to have a luge track nearby that you could use? Problem is there are only four of them in America. In this episode, I break down the differences between luge, skeleton, and

Why the Long Face?

In this episode, I share my ‘physiognomical theory of everything,’ and what could unaffectionately be referred to as “communist face.” Here I discuss facial structures, perceived softness, and why certain public figures project a collectivist energy based solely on appearance. This eventually turns into a broader conversation about leadership, optics, and testosterone (or lack thereof).

Hi there! I’m the Man Overseas, a thirty-something-year-old from Houston, TX, who in 2015, took a year-long sabbatical from a lucrative sales job in the States to travel the world on passive real estate income.
After one year abroad, I discovered the FIRE (financial independence retire early) community, and have since become a proverbial card-carrying member.
