This week is a solo episode—no guest joining me.

I turned 40 years old on June 19, 2020. The night before, Lady O suggested I do a Top 40 list to mark the occasion.

That night I stayed up till 2:30am writing 40 Pieces of Life Advice for 20-Year Old Me. The piece is likely to be the most helpful article I’ve written to date—at least judging by the amount of positive feedback I’ve received.

Many readers sent messages asking me to expound on the advice. I’ve done so here in this week’s solo podcast episode.

Topics discussed:
  • Human nature & state of the world
  • When things happen outside your control
  • Expectations vs. Reality
  • Self-imposed misery
  • Dealing with a “mid-life crisis”
  • Turning 35 years old vs. 40 years old
  • Moving out of your “starter home”
  • Twenty-something ‘know-it-alls’
  • Being taught what to think
  • How much to spend on engagement ring
  • My thoughts on tipping culture
  • Struggle of those who think well of themselves
  • Giving yourself an easier walk through the world
  • Benefits of journaling
  • “The unexamined life is not worth living”
  • Absorbing yourself in the present moment
  • The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
  • Trigger warnings, micro-aggressions
  • Comparing yourself to others
  • Instagram’s impact on culture
  • Steve Kerr & The Last Dance
  • Cancel culture
  • Brad’s relationship issues
  • Negotiating tips
  • Pat Mahomes NFL Quarterback
  • Replaying the tapes
  • Brad answers listener questions
  • State of the real estate market
  • Bottom of the market (March 23)
  • Current mortgage interest rates
  • Advantage of getting paid in big chunks

Quotes mentioned in the episode:

The unexamined life is not worth living. — Socrates

A healthy man wants 1,000 things, a sick man wants only one. — Confucius

Do not believe that he who seeks to comfort you lives untroubled among the simple and quiet words that sometimes do you good. His life has much difficulty and sadness and remains far behind yours. Were it otherwise he would never have been able to find those words. – Rainer Maria Wilke

UFC, SpaceX, Rape Report, Geography, Michael Jackson, NY Knicks, World Cup (from Medellín)

I start this episode with social issues and political commentary, covering the UFC event at the White House, the Michelle Obama trans discussion, left vs. right debates, the Southern Poverty Law Center controversy and Communism. Also the massive UK rape gang scandal and new social media bans for teens. Then I share thoughts on the

Racial Killings, Crooked or Stupid, Wealth Comparisons

I start this episode with two brutal murder cases that shook the West. Henry Nowak, a young British man, was stabbed multiple times by a Sikh attacker, tragically dying in handcuffs after being falsely accused of racism. On the other hand, 17-year old Austin Metcalf, a promising young athlete, was stabbed to death at a
