Salmon Fishing, Raised on the Rez, Bali Dreams with Lamar Fairmint

Lamar Fairmint is a young man I’m lucky to know. I finally got a chance to meet him in Costa Rica at the Retreat—no question he had the most interesting background of anyone who attended. In this episode, we talk about what it was like growing up on the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Eastern Oregon.

Thanks for sharing Brad. Inspiring, simplistic, and a breath of fresh air from all the noise and complicated approaches.

I PM’d you on the gram.
    Cheers.

Thanks for listening. If someone can’t explain their approach in a way that even a child could understand, he’s usually a charlatan or a speculator.

      Appreciate your thoughts, RJ.

My wife and I were listening to your podcast together and we’re totally motivated. We are in the process of buying a second rental property with plans to buy several more over the next coming years. Great to hear from a felllow Coon Ass. I grew up in Kenner graduated from LSU in 05’. As soon as I heard you say lagniappe in the podcast I knew where you were from. Made me homesick for a minute as I now live in Southwest Florida. I really appreciate your back to basics approach on rental investing. Keep spreading the word. .

Hi Steve, that’s awesome! Coon Ass Country is hurtin’ this morning after that 7 OT thriller last night.

I wish you massive cash flow and great gains in your real estate investing!

    Hey Brad,

I’ve been following the BP podcast for a couple years now and have to say, you were a one of a kind guest on the show. I appreciate all the incredible advice other guests have offered but you were unique in that you were able to retire on much less (quantity of properties) compared to what some people do. For a time, I thought the only way to reach financial freedom was to acquire 100+ doors. But your philosophy resignated with me as I’ve paid of two properties and the peace of mind that comes with it is priceless. I know it keeps me from leveraging using debt but it’s far less stressful to me. I’ve received quite a bit of criticism and many advise me to use debt and scale quicker but you can’t get the same peace of mind that’s for sure. Not one way is better than the other, it just depends on your goals/aspirations and what you’re willing to do to get there. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed listening.

Hey Caleb, thanks for your note. Congrats on paying off two properties! Those are BIG wins! Hope you celebrate your successes with a steak.

Glad my episode resonated with you. As Brandon said on the show, “The way you play the game is determined by the goal of the game.” People laughed and criticized me too. THey’re probably laughing in their cubicle now. You never regret owning properties free & clear. I wouldn’t have traveled the same way or had as many awesome life experiences if I’d been highly leveraged. Peace of mind is powerful.

Hi Brad, I listened to the episode featuring you this morning. My commute is just over an hour and I was able to finish it in one go. I got home and looked up your website right away. It was one of my favorite episodes, if not the very favorite ( I am trying to consciously avoid recency bias). So simple, so honest, so deep. I want to thank you for sharing openly with all of us and wish you the very best. I’m inspired by your story and would like to follow your footsteps. We just recently paid off our consumer debt. We do have one rental now, it is not paid off. It used to be our primary residence and we kept it as an experiment. It is not cash flowing, just breaking even. I hope to run into you somewhere. Please enjoy your life and continue to inspire us!

Hey Tomek, love hearing that. Paying off consumer debt is when the fun begins. I started with the same experiment as you (kept primary).

I appreciate your thoughtful message, and will remember your name. I hope we do run into each other someday.

    Hey Brad,
Just listened to your bp podcast interview and love it! I’m so glad to hear of a investor that is “free” without ultra leverage and 100 properties. Down to earth simplicity was music to my ears! Your upbringing story hit me hard. Thanks for giving us insight and being humble. If you’re ever in DFW, I gotta buy you lunch!
    Thanks, Luke
